7/6/2023 0 Comments Brandon priestley![]() And then I went to London to do a play for nine months. Early in his career, Canadian-American actor Jason Priestley made appearances in the ‘80s TV series Airwolf, 21 Jump Street and a flop sitcom Sister Kate before landing the lead role of Brandon. So they needed all the stuff still! I just packed up my stuff and left and got on a plane and went to follow Barenaked Ladies around on their North American tour for a couple of months. Priestly partied hard apparently to prove he was nothing like sanctimonious Brandon. I left four episodes into the ninth season. According to his memoirs, Canadian-born actor Jason Priestley, who played sweetheart Brandon Walsh, was frequently mobbed by hoards of screaming girls but struggled with fame and admittedly would smoke and get drunk during every press interview. It's a curious assortment of several different stories set in 2050, with the two big factors in the plot being the Roman Catholic church (which Blish mostly gets right) and the alien planet of Lithia, which is an oddly perfect society. The first by most measures is James Blish's A Case of Conscience, published as a novel in 1958 (an expansion from a shorter piece which won a Retro-Hugo in its own right much more recently). NwhyteOne of my 2009 resolutions is to re-read the Hugo-winning novels which I haven't otherwise reviewed on-line, in more or less chronological order (allowing for the gaps in my library). ![]() 7/6/2023 0 Comments Rachel carson pesticides![]() ![]() In the mid-1940s, Carson became concerned about the use of synthetic pesticides, many of which had been developed through the military funding of science after World War II.
